A Duck's tale
By the time you read this, our Vacation Bible School will be over. I appreciate so much the work of many people who help us each and every year. VBS is equal to about six months of Sunday School according to the experts. It is such a great opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus with children. Thank you to all who invested in the lives of our children this week!
It has been great to see several baptisms this summer. We are so thankful for all of the commitments to Christ that have happened this summer. It is so important to take advantage of the opportunities that God gives us to share His love with others. I read this story that reminds us of the good use of opportunity:
A young man who had tremendous difficulty getting a date sought help through counseling and by enrolling in various seminars on demeanor and self-esteem. When about to lose all hope, he embarked on an impromptu vacation and sat next to an attractive young lady on the airplane. He thought to himself that this would be a great opportunity to use the recent skills he had developed.
After an encouraging conversation prior to landing, he asked her, “By the way, what kind of men do you prefer?” She replied, “Well, I enjoy Native Americans, Jewish men, and also good old boys. What’s your name, anyhow?” Realizing this was his moment of opportunity, he said, “Geronimo Bernstein, but my friends just call me Bubba.”
“…live not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity.” Ephesians 5:16-16 (NIV)
We are looking forward to our Vacation Bible School which begins this coming Sunday. Our theme is “Game On!” and I know it is going to be a great week! We are still in need of workers, so see Michael David or Janet Dedmon if you can help us. I always enjoy the excitement and enthusiasm of the children for VBS. It is a great opportunity for us as a church to mold young hearts for the Savior.
In Mark 10, there is a story about those who were bringing children to Jesus to be blessed and the disciples rebuked them. Jesus was upset when he saw this and he said, “Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Verse 16 says, “And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them.”
Please join your Pastor and other leaders in prayer that we will see children come to know Jesus this week. Pray also that those children that already know Jesus will grow in their faith. Please pray for strength for all of our workers. They truly give all they have to make it a special week for the kids.
We have a group of 19 youth and adults from our church on a mission trip to Ovid, Colorado. Please continue to pray for them that God will do great things. Our group is always a great blessing to the Baptist Church that is there in Ovid. We pray for souls to be saved and that our group will be an encouragement to the Pastor and the Church.
See you Sunday with a Bible in my hand and a message in my heart…..
